Estoy buscando palabras para describir Farg, pero se me dificulta hallarlas porque esta es una canción que se mueve en el ámbito de los sentimientos y ese es su lenguaje principal. Es un tributo a la memoria de un amigo de los integrantes de Katla. que partió luego de que sus cargas emocionales se hicieran tan pesadas que le resultó imposible seguir viviendo, su nombre era Sverrir Örn Ólafsson y falleció en 2012. Farg es una palabra islandesa que significa «carga» y se usa como punto de partida para crear una muestra de respeto y cariño y a la vez un testimonio claro de las dificultades que una persona puede estar viviendo en silencio por culpa de la depresión, una condición que no siempre recibe el apoyo que quien la padece necesita para salir adelante.
La música de Farg es una maravillosa mezcla entre un solemne doom metal con influencias de black metal en la distorsión de las guitarras pero cantada con una voz limpia que transmite la tristeza que sirvió como inspiración para que la canción fuera compuesta. Los riffs de guitarra parecieran llorar con sus notas y también tiene un piano que con dulzura refleja también el luto que se vivió a raíz de la muerte de un amigo querido. Conforme avanza la canción, ambos instrumentos se unen para interpretar el motivo central al unísono y logran un efecto sublime que se queda grabado en la memoria. Farg es una canción hecha con sumo respeto y sentimiento y es una apropiada manera de dar un último adiós a alguien que será por siempre echado de menos. La letra está completamente en islandés pero aunque no hables ese idioma, el mensaje se entiende a través de la forma en la que está cantada.
Para acompañar a Farg, grabaron un vídeo en blanco y negro que abre con un poema que en español dice «No estamos hechos de piedra – nuestras líneas no siempre son perfectamente rectas – todos nos doblamos – pero algunos somos más frágiles que otros – y nos rompemos con más facilidad – nuestra confusión interna – normalmente no se ve por fuera – no estamos hechos de piedra» y luego vemos tomas de personas que me imagino son familiares y amigos de los integrantes de Katla. seguramente siguiendo su filosofía de hacer las cosas a mano y que todo quede en familia.
Katla. es un dúo compuesto por el multi instrumentalista Einar Thorberg Guðmundsson y el baterista y artista visual Guðmundur Óli Pálmason, quien antes perteneciera a Sólstafir. Tomaron el nombre de uno de los volcanes más grandes de Islandia, llamado Katla y Farg es un sencillo que pertenece a la edición especial de su segundo álbum, que será lanzado el 13 de noviembre y se titula Allt þetta Helvítis Myrkur, que significa Toda esta Oscuridad Infernal. I’m looking for the words to describe Farg, but I’m having a hard time finding them because this is a song that moves in the realm of feelings and that is its main language. It is a tribute to the memory of a friend of the members of Katla. who died after his emotional burdens became so heavy that it was impossible for him to continue living, his name was Sverrir Örn Ólafsson and he passed away in 2012. The lyrics are completely in Icelandic but even if you don’t speak the language, the message is understood through the way it is sung.
