Todavía estoy con los ojos totalmente abiertos y una expresión de asombro en el rostro luego de lo que acabo de escuchar, es el nuevo sencillo de la agrupación sueca pg.lost y se titula E22. Es maravilloso y más que solo escuchar una canción acabo de atravesar por una experiencia que es difícil describir en palabras pues es una mezcla de emociones intensas que estoy apenas tratando de comprender. Lo que recién acabas de leer son mis primeras impresiones luego de haber escuchado tan solo una vez la canción, pero estoy seguro de que volveré a ella una y otra vez.

En efecto, luego de darme un tiempo para comprender los sentimientos que me produjo E22, la escuché nuevamente y lo que de inicio sentí no solo fue confirmado sino también reforzado. Este es un tema completamente instrumental que no necesita de una letra para decir su mensaje y que impresiona a quien lo escucha a través de guitarras, un bajo, teclados y la batería. Se ubica en el espectro más pesado del post-rock y en algunos de sus pasajes atraviesa hasta el post-metal, pero lo que más llama la atención es que no es un tema que se sienta pesado, o que nos inunde con un muro sonoro, más bien nos presenta unos paisajes sónicos muy interesantes mientras se acompaña de una voz que sin pronunciar palabras le da un toque orgánico a su atmósfera, algo que pg.lost ya ha hecho en álbumes anteriores y destaca en especial la canción Ikaros, de Versus.

Como todo buen tema de post-rock, E22 nos lleva en un viaje en el que el paisaje va cambiando a medida que avanzamos y los motivos que escuchamos se repiten, pero en cada ocasión hay diferentes tonalidades y variaciones que hacen interesante repetidas visitas a la canción. Explicar una canción de post-rock es algo que no me ha resultado fácil a pesar del enorme gusto que tengo por el género y prefiero más bien irme por la ruta de describirla como una experiencia y en lo que me hace sentir y vivir cuando la escucho pues es música que se percibe a través de todos los sentidos, por eso incluí el primer párrafo de esta entrada, pues es una forma de expresar lo que visceralmente sentí cuando la escuché esa primera e inolvidable vez.

E22 es el primer sencillo de su quinto álbum, que será lanzado el 20 de noviembre y se titula Oscillate. A juzgar por lo que nos adelantaron en esta canción, nos espera un gran álbum que creo estará como mínimo al mismo nivel que su trabajo anterior, el monumental Versus. La agrupación pg.lost fue formada en Suecia en 2004 y está integrada por Kristian Karlsson en el bajo y teclados, Martin Hjertstedt en la batería, Gustav Almberg en la guitarra y Mattias Bhatt en la guitarra. I am still with my eyes wide open and an expression of astonishment on my face after what I just heard, it is the new single from the Swedish group pg.lost and it is titled E22. It is wonderful and more than just listening to a song I have just gone through an experience that is difficult to describe in words because it is a mixture of intense emotions that I am trying to understand. What you just read are my first impressions after listening to the song just once, but I’m sure I will come back to it again and again.

Indeed, after giving myself time to process the feelings that E22 produced in me, I listened to it again and what I initially felt was not only confirmed but also reinforced. This is a completely instrumental song that does not need lyrics to convey its message and surprises those who listen to it through guitars, bass, keyboards and drums. It can be placed in the heaviest spectrum of the post-rock genre and in some of its passages it even crosses into post-metal territory, but the most surprising part is that the song itself doesn’t feel heavy, nor it hits us with a sound wall. Rather, it presents us with some very interesting soundscapes while being accompanied by a voice that without singing any words, gives an organic touch to its atmosphere, something that pg.lost has already done in previous albums and is especially highlighted in the song Ikaros, from the Versus album.

Like any good post-rock song, E22 takes us on a journey where the landscape changes as we go along and the motifs we hear are reprised, but every time they reappear there are different tones and variations that make repeated visits to the song interesting. Explaining a post-rock song is something that has not been easy for me despite how much I like the genre and I rather prefer to go the route of describing it as an experience and what it makes me feel and live when I listen to it. This kind music is perceived through all the senses at the same time, that’s why I included the first paragraph of this entry, because it is a way of expressing what I viscerally felt when I heard it that unforgettable first time.

E22 is the first single from their fifth album, which will be released on November 20 and is titled Oscillate.
